Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana and other cities.
“On May 2, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions for air pollution are expected in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk and, at night, in Atyrau and Astana,” the statement said.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layers of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warmer air lies above cooler air, trapping it underneath. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises and disperses pollutants. But during an inversion, cold air is “locked” near the surface along with emissions, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution builds up close to the ground — especially in urban areas.
Weather in Astana

Earlier, Kazhydromet shared the weather outlook for May in Kazakhstan. According to forecasters, the average temperature in the last month of spring will be 1°C above normal across most of the country.
