Tengrinews.kz - First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar has addressed the possibility that Kazakhstan’s second nuclear power plant (NPP) could be built faster than the first.
According to Sklyar, the construction timeline will depend largely on the technology proposed by the company implementing the project.
“Everything will depend on the technology provided by the company building it,” Sklyar said in response to questions from journalists.
He also emphasized that the government does not plan to delay the construction of the second nuclear facility and intends to develop both projects in parallel.
“We’re planning not to postpone the construction of the second NPP,” said the Deputy PM.
As for the cost of the future station, that question remains open. The total will be known only after the completion of a feasibility study.
Sklyar also reminded the public that Almassadam Satkaliyev, head of the Atomic Energy Agency, had previously mentioned staff training for the nuclear sector. Kazakhstani specialists will be trained to work at the plant and engage in scientific research in the field.
Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency announced that Russia’s Rosatom was selected as the lead of an international consortium for the construction of the first NPP in Kazakhstan.
