Tengrinews.kz – The Atomic Energy Agency has announced which company will build the nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
Rosatom has been selected as the leader of the international consortium for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
"Currently, based on Rosatom's proposals, discussions have begun on attracting state export financing from the Russian Federation," the statement said.
Earlier, it was reported that the French nuclear engineering company Assystem had developed a methodology for Kazakhstan to select the leader of the international consortium for the construction of the nuclear power plant.
According to the agency, following the evaluation, the shortlist of potential vendors included Rosatom (Russia), China National Nuclear Corporation (China), Électricité de France (France), and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (South Korea).
The shortlisted companies submitted comprehensive technical and commercial proposals for the construction of the nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, including:
- Estimated construction cost;
- Project implementation timeline;
- Financing models;
- Equipment and construction localization strategies;
- Proposals for personnel training and development of scientific and educational potential;
- Opportunities for cooperation in the nuclear fuel cycle;
- Social responsibility commitments.
The results of the analysis were presented to the Interdepartmental Commission on the Development of the Nuclear Industry, which determined that Rosatom’s proposal was the most optimal and beneficial for Kazakhstan. It was followed by China's CNNC, while France's EDF and South Korea's KHNP shared third place.
