Tengrinews.kz - The Bureau of National Statistics has released updated population figures for Kazakhstan as of May 1, 2025, citing the bureau's official website.
Kazakhstan’s population reached 20,353,265 as of May 1.
The most populous regions remain Almaty with 2,310,071 residents and the Turkestan region with 2,151,581 people.
More than 1.5 million people live in the Almaty region (1,573,044) and in Astana (1,558,501).
Other regions with populations over one million include the Karaganda region (1,133,284), the Zhambyl region (1,220,611), and the city of Shymkent (1,271,228).
A total of 12,856,783 people reside in urban areas, while 7,496,482 live in rural areas.
