Tengrinews.kz — The Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned Kazakhstanis about a new fraud scheme on Telegram. Scammers are posing as heads of government agencies, companies and organizations, citing Polisia.kz.
According to the Interior Ministry, fraudsters create accounts using photos, names and other details of real executives. They then contact employees of organizations and, on behalf of a director, manager or other official, demand that they urgently carry out a financial transaction.
The scammers may ask employees to transfer money to a specified account, pay for goods or services, or carry out another urgent operation. Such messages are most often received by accountants, financial specialists and other employees who have access to the organization’s funds.
If you receive such a message:
- do not transfer money or carry out financial transactions;
- make sure to contact your manager by phone or in person;
- carefully check the phone number, the sender’s account and the content of the message;
- if you have the slightest doubts, stop the conversation and report what happened to management and responsible employees.
