Tengrinews.kz - Starting January 1, 2025, new tax regulations have come into effect in Kazakhstan, allowing tax deductions for large families, educational expenses, and mortgage interest payments, according to the State Revenue Department of Almaty.

Tax deductions for large families

Large families can now benefit from a tax deduction that applies to both parents. The maximum deduction is capped at 282 MCI (monthly calculation index) for a calendar year, offered in one of the following ways:

  • 23 MCI (90,436 tenge) per month for one parent;
  • 12 MCI (47,184 tenge) per month for each parent.

To qualify, families must have at least four minor children as of January 1, confirmed by birth certificates. This measure could save approximately 90,000 tenge in taxable income per month, reducing personal income tax by 9,000 tenge monthly.

Deductions for educational expenses

Taxpayers can claim deductions for educational expenses, including:

  • Preschool education;
  • Technical and vocational education;
  • Post-secondary and higher education.

Students or their legal guardians can apply for the deduction if the student is under 21 and financially dependent on them. The maximum deduction amount is 118 MCI per calendar year. Required documents include a service agreement with the educational institution and proof of payment.

Deductions for mortgage interest payments

Until the end of 2024, interest deductions were available only for mortgages obtained through Otbasy Bank. However, starting in 2025, the deduction will apply to loans from any bank.

To claim the deduction, taxpayers must submit a request to their employer's accounting or HR department, along with the following documents:

  • Mortgage agreement;
  • Payment schedule;
  • Proof of payment.

Earlier, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov announced that new mortgage programs will be introduced in Kazakhstan.
