Tengrinews.kz – A proposal has been made in Kazakhstan to change the requirements for knowledge of the state language and Constitution for acquiring citizenship.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has prepared a draft amendment to the order that defines the required knowledge in Kazakh language, the Constitution, and Kazakhstan's history for those seeking to obtain or restore citizenship. The new draft proposes to revise the minimum passing scores for each subject as follows:

  • State language – at least 15 points;
  • Fundamentals of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan – at least 20 points;
  • History of Kazakhstan – at least 15 points.

For comparison: the current requirement is a minimum of 36 points for the state language and 9 points for the Constitution. The requirement for history remains unchanged.

According to the Ministry, the proposed 10% reduction in the overall threshold aims to balance the number of questions per subject and ensure fairer testing for applicants.

The draft is currently available for public discussion on the "Open NPA" portal and will remain open for comments until July 25.
