Tengrinews.kz - Residents of Almaty have been warned about the rise in "investment" scams, according to Polisia.kz.
The "Cyberpol" of the Almaty Police Department reminded the public about the most common types of internet fraud. Authorities explained that ads are being posted on websites and social media promising guaranteed returns from investments in profitable ventures, with offers of high monthly dividends and bonuses.
"Scammers usually ask victims to transfer funds to foreign or Kazakh bank cards, as well as through electronic wallets and other payment systems. To gain trust and attract new victims, they initially pay out small amounts. Typically, these early payouts are made using the contributions of new victims. Once a significant sum is accumulated, the scammer stops the payments," police said.
Authorities once again urged citizens to remain vigilant, cautious, and less trusting.
Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned Kazakhstani citizens about the risks of fraud involving artificial intelligence and targeted advertising.
