Tengrinews.kz - The Bureau of National Statistics has released new data on inflation in Kazakhstan.
Monthly inflation in Kazakhstan
According to the bureau, the monthly consumer price index slowed in June to 0.8 percent (compared to 0.9 percent in May).
Over the month, prices for paid services increased by 0.8 percent, while prices for food and non-food goods rose by 0.9 percent.
Monthly price increases were observed for:
- ice cream, up 1.9 percent
- yogurt, up 1.6 percent
- nuts, up 1.5 percent
- rolls and cupcakes, up 1.3 percent
- confectionery and soft drinks, up 1 percent
- sausages, up 0.9 percent
Annual inflation in Kazakhstan
Meanwhile, annual inflation in Kazakhstan accelerated to 11.8 percent (up from 11.3 percent in May).
Over the year, prices for paid services rose by 16.1 percent, non-food goods by 9.4 percent, and food goods by 10.6 percent.
Among the regions, the highest annual inflation was recorded in Almaty (13.8 percent), Astana (13.1 percent), and the Karaganda region (13.5 percent), while the lowest was in the Mangystau region (9.6 percent).
What became more expensive over the year
It was noted that the largest contribution to annual inflation came from food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.2 percentage points), housing services (1.8 percentage points), and healthcare (1.5 percentage points).
Among food products, prices rose for:
- pears, up 11.3 percent
- canned corn, up 10.8 percent
- fruit and vegetable juices, up 10.4 percent
Among non-food products, blender prices increased by 7.8 percent. Cable TV service prices rose by 2.2 percent.
What became cheaper over the year
At the same time, the following items fell in price year-on-year:
- buckwheat groats, down 9 percent
- rice, down 8.3 percent
- cucumbers, down 3.5 percent
- oatmeal, down 2.5 percent
- dried apricots, down 2.3 percent
