Tengrinews.kz - Recently, a 29-year-old resident of Germany named Berta, who works as a UX specialist, visited Kazakhstan. Her trip left her with many vivid impressions and deep feelings. Tengrinews.kz spoke with the traveler to learn what impressed and surprised her most about Kazakhstan.
The most important aspect of Berta's trip was Kazakh culture and traditions.
"I was truly impressed by the hospitality of Kazakhs. The tradition of respect for elders and the care shown to guests really amazed me. And I found it incredible that even the younger generation still knows, lives by, and observes many traditions. I attended a Kazakh wedding and was surprised by how many traditions are still preserved," she shared.

The traveler noted that her time in Kazakhstan was filled with many positive moments, but she especially remembered one incident.
"We were amazed by the hospitality. When we arrived at Arbat, we only had a large bill, and the taxi driver didn't have change, and we couldn't make an online transfer. In the end, he refused to take the money, saying, 'You are guests, and I will earn it on my next trip.' This was especially surprising because, in other countries, people often try to charge tourists more," Berta shared.
As for the cuisine, Berta was pleasantly surprised by the variety and flavor of Kazakh dishes.
"I really enjoyed beshbarmak – the traditional dish with meat and noodles. I was also amazed at how much meat is served daily, especially the delicious lamb," the traveler noted.
Kazakhstan's nature left Berta in awe. She was particularly impressed by the Charyn Canyon, which she called a mini version of the Grand Canyon, and the mountains around Almaty.
"The nature here is incredibly diverse. The mountains around Almaty, especially at Shymbulak, left me speechless. And lake Kaindy was simply stunning," she said.
During her stay in Kazakhstan, Berta encountered some unexpected aspects, such as the widespread use of mobile banking for payments.
"I was surprised at how modern this country is. Everyone uses banking apps, and people were surprised when we offered to pay with cash. In Germany, we haven't reached this level of digitalization yet - sometimes even cards aren’t accepted in certain restaurants," she shared.
Berta also noted the deep respect and hierarchy among the locals, which is based on age, something new and interesting for her.
Based on her experience, the traveler recommended that tourists considering Kazakhstan for their next trip should definitely visit the Kolsai and Kaindy Lakes, hike in the mountains, and explore Almaty.
"Almaty itself has a lot of beautiful parks and restaurants, and it's definitely worth taking a stroll around the city," she noted.
The traveler also shared that during her stay in Kazakhstan, she managed to learn a few phrases: "rakmet" (thank you), "assalaumagaleikum" (hello), "toi" (celebration), and "sau bolynyz!" (goodbye). She also noted that Kazakhstan’s multiculturalism was a unique and unexpected discovery for her.
"I was surprised by how multicultural Kazakhstan is. It’s a unique country where many ethnic groups live together, making the cultural diversity rich and fascinating to explore," Berta concluded.
Her visit to Kazakhstan left her with a lot of positive emotions and unforgettable impressions. The country captivated her with its hospitality, culture, cuisine, and natural beauty, and she strongly recommended other travelers to explore this destination and spend a few days there.
