Tengrinews.kz - Southeast Asian countries Vietnam and Thailand have been severely affected by the aftermath of Typhoon Kajiki, which triggered heavy rains, floods, and landslides. At least 7 people have died in Vietnam and 1 in Thailand.

Vietnam

According to Kaohoon, flooding in Vietnam has left 7 people dead, 1 missing, and 34 injured.

The disaster destroyed 15 houses and damaged more than 8,700 others, along with 63 schools and 8 medical facilities.

Nearly 80,000 hectares of rice fields were submerged, and about 2,000 head of livestock perished.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued urgent instructions to local authorities to accelerate the restoration of critical infrastructure, including electricity, communications, transport routes, schools, and medical facilities.

He also called for the rapid distribution of humanitarian aid and the repair of residential buildings to stabilize the situation before the new school year begins.

Typhoon Kajiki is already the fifth storm to strike Vietnam this year. Making landfall earlier in the week, it brought torrential rains and strong winds to many northern and central provinces.

Thailand

In Thailand, torrential rains linked to Typhoon Kajiki triggered floods and landslides in northern provinces.

One person died and another went missing in a landslide near the northern city of Chiang Mai. Several homes were damaged, and a number of residents were injured.

The Thai Meteorological Department has warned residents in mountainous and low-lying areas of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides in northern and northeastern regions on Wednesday.
