The Civil Aviation Committee responded to the official inquiry from the editorial office of Tengrinews.kz.
Tokyo
As is known, regular air traffic between Kazakhstan and Japan is currently not being carried out.
"Air Astana is considering launching regular passenger flights to Tokyo approximately in spring 2026," the Civil Aviation Committee responded to the official inquiry from the editorial office.
In August 2024, it was reported that Air Astana and Japan Airlines had signed a codeshare agreement that would allow both airlines to place their codes on a new flight from Almaty to Tokyo, planned for spring 2026.
"This document expands the opportunities for air travel between Kazakhstan and Japan for business and tourism trips, as well as promoting the growth of passenger and cargo transportation between the two countries," the Civil Aviation Committee noted at that time.
Notably, negotiations for the flight to Tokyo have been ongoing for quite some time. For instance, back in May 2023, the president of Air Astana, Peter Foster, spoke about the airline's plans.
"Next year, we plan to open flights to Tokyo, with the launch of flights in March 2024," the company’s head noted at that time.
New York
Tengrinews.kz also attempted to clarify new details regarding the direct flight between the USA and Kazakhstan.
"To open direct flights to the USA, one of the requirements is having an aircraft capable of performing a direct non-stop flight between the two countries. It is expected that the first aircraft (Boeing 787 Dreamliner) will be delivered to Air Astana by the end of 2025," the Civil Aviation Committee reported.
Back in late May 2023, Peter Foster, responding to journalists' questions, revealed when the direct flight from Kazakhstan to the USA would be launched.
"Currently, the plan is to open flights by 2025. A small clarification – the flights will be from Almaty. Almaty – New York will initially operate three times a week, with a subsequent increase to five flights a week, and if the performance is good, possibly daily. There will be no flights from Astana," he clarified at that time.
