Tengrinews.kz – China will build the second and third nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan, First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar announced.
According to the official, it is too early to discuss the cost of the facilities — necessary calculations are still underway.
“The cost of the plant will be determined once the feasibility study and design estimates are completed. It’s too early to say anything now. I wouldn’t want to give incorrect figures. All issues under the intergovernmental agreement, including the form of cooperation, are still being coordinated and will later go through parliamentary ratification,” Sklyar stated at a government press conference.
Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need to build three nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan. In this regard, journalists asked Roman Sklyar who would construct the third NPP.
“The third plant (like the second one) will also come from China. Our colleagues from the relevant agency are currently working on this matter,” he added.
Previously, the Atomic Energy Agency announced that Rosatom was chosen as the leader of the international consortium for building the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
