Car accident in Almaty region: 18 vehicles involved in collision

Tengrinews.kz - A massive car accident occurred in the Almaty region, involving 18 vehicles, according to QazAvtoZhol.

On January 15, around 7:30 AM, a collision involving 18 vehicles happened at the 28th kilometer of the Almaty – Ust-Kamenogorsk highway (direction: Almaty – Konaev). The accident occurred under dense fog conditions.

"Preliminary information indicates that the cause of the accident was drivers failing to maintain speed limits and a safe distance in limited visibility. The section of the road where the incident occurred belongs to technical category IА, with six lanes of traffic. The roadway was dry, free of defects and foreign objects," the statement said.

There were no fatalities or serious injuries as a result of the accident. The circumstances are still being investigated.

The Almaty region police reported that three accidents occurred on January 15 along the Almaty – Ust-Kamenogorsk highway due to dense fog, which significantly reduced visibility.

"Investigative measures are being conducted regarding these incidents. One passenger with minor injuries was taken to the hospital," the statement added.

Regional police remind all road users of the importance of taking precautions. In conditions of poor visibility, it is especially important to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance, and strictly adhere to traffic rules.
