Tengrinews.kz – Bears are terrorizing local livestock farmers in the Abai Region. According to villagers, the hungry animals are attacking cows directly in pastures and even breaking into barns where livestock is kept, KTK reports.
“I got a call from acquaintances who live nearby — they said bears took 17 of their animals. I personally lost eight,” said Meiramgalym Zharmaganbetov, a resident of Kapanbulak village.
The Zharym District has suffered the most from these bear raids. Locals say they constantly find remains of livestock and severely injured animals in the fields.
Residents claim bears are roaming around five nearby villages, and for two years, the animals have been harassing livestock farmers. Just this summer, some farms lost several animals at once.
The villagers are urgently asking for the issue to be resolved before the situation worsens. Local authorities said they have formed a commission and reached out to hunters for help.
“A special commission has been created to combat brown bear attacks. It includes representatives of local executive and law enforcement bodies, as well as heads of relevant organizations — a total of 28 people. Among them are individuals with hunting licenses and permits to possess and carry firearms,” said Berik Samezhanov, Deputy Akim of Zharym District.
