Tengrinews.kz - The akimat (the local government administration) of Kostanay region has commented on the circulating information about the renaming of Kostanay. The post originated from a satirical news page on TikTok, according to "Nasha Gazeta."
Users have been sharing a screenshot from the KazNews page, which claims that a decree has been signed to rename the city of Kostanay to Sanar.
The supposed "renaming" was justified by the statement that "the name Kostanay is outdated and needs to be replaced with a more modern one."
The akimat of the Kostanay region confirmed that the information being spread is false.
"Regarding the information from KazNews about the renaming of Kostanay to Sanar, we state that this publication lacks references and documentary confirmations, therefore it is untrue (fake). We remind you that spreading false information is subject to legal consequences," the regional administration said.
