Tengrinews.kz - The water overflow at the Sergeyev Dam has risen by 4 centimeters in a day, reaching 94 centimeters, as North Kazakhstan prepares for a second wave of flooding, according to the regional akimat (local government administration).

The highest recorded level was 425 centimeters in 2024.

In Petropavlovsk, the Esil River rose by 11 centimeters in a day, reaching 949 centimeters.

The critical level is 960 centimeters, when water floods the highway near the Petropavlovsk hydroelectric complex.

Due to rising water levels, authorities have restricted traffic on the affected road.

"Flooding has covered the roadway on the annually inundated section of the 'Petropavlovsk Bypass' highway," the regional akimat stated.

From 10:00 P.M. on April 1, all vehicle movement on this section has been restricted. Traffic signs, signal posts, and round-the-clock monitoring have been put in place.

The akimat has recommended alternative routes:

  • For passenger cars – through Petropavlovsk
  • For trucks – via the Peterfeld – Arkhangelskoye – Novokamenka route, then onto the Zhezkazgan – Petropavlovsk highway.

Previously, Kazhydromet analyzed the flood risks across all regions of Kazakhstan.
