Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population reported how many Kazakhs have returned to their historical homeland since 1991.

Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population reported how many Kazakhs have returned to their historical homeland since 1991.

"In 2024, 14,391 ethnic Kazakhs returned to their historical homeland and received kandas status. Since 1991, a total of 1,142,700 ethnic Kazakhs have returned to the republic," the statement said.

It is noted that 45.8 % of the kandas who arrived in Kazakhstan since the beginning of the year are originally from China, 39 % from Uzbekistan, 5.9 % from Mongolia, 5.2 % from Turkmenistan, 2.9 % from Russia, and 1.2 % from other countries.

As of October 1, 2024, the proportion of ethnic migrants of working age is 57.6 %, minors make up 33.1 %, and pensioners 9.3 %.

Among working-age kandas, 17.9 % have higher education, 24.4 % have specialized secondary education, 54.4 % have general secondary education, and 3.3 % have no education.

The arriving ethnic Kazakhs have settled in various regions of the republic. The quota for kandas settlement in the regions for 2024 is 3,033 people. As of October 1, 2024, 2,477 kandas have been resettled in these regions.

Kandas settling in the above-mentioned regions are provided with state support measures in the form of a relocation subsidy—70 MCI (monthly calculation index) amounting to 258,400 tenge per head and for each family member, paid once; and monthly payments for housing rent and utility services for one year, ranging from 15 to 30 MCI (55,300 to 110,700 tenge).
