Tengrinews.kz - A criminal case has been initiated over the spread of information on social media about the alleged escape of convicted former Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, from a prison colony.

The Committee of Criminal Executive System's press service provided an official statement on the matter.

“We inform you that a criminal case has already been initiated regarding the dissemination of this false information, and those responsible will be held accountable,” the agency's statement said.

The committee reminded Kazakhstani citizens of the legal responsibility for spreading false information and urged them to rely solely on official sources.

Earlier, reports surfaced online claiming that Bishimbaev could not be located in any Kazakhstani prison colonies. Some journalists speculated that he might be serving his sentence in Stepnogorsk or Arshaly, though media outlets were unable to confirm this. Later, Telegram channels began circulating rumors that he had supposedly escaped from a correctional facility.

The Committee of Criminal Executive System refuted this information, stating that it is “not true.” According to the press service, the convict is serving his sentence in a maximum-security facility.

Reminder: On May 13, the trial in the case of the murder of Saltanat Nukenova concluded in Astana. Former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev was found guilty of torturing and murdering his wife and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

His brother, Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, was found guilty of concealing the crime and sentenced to four years in prison.

On June 26, the judicial panel ruled on the appeal of Bishimbaev and Baizhanov, leaving their sentences unchanged.

The press service of the Committee of Criminal Executive System reported on July 23 that the convicted former minister was transferred to a maximum-security facility.
