Tengrinews.kz - Residents of northern Kazakhstan have shared photos and videos of unusually large hailstones, reportedly the size of quail eggs.

Forecasters had issued a weather warning ahead of the storm. On April 28, the North Kazakhstan region was expected to see thunderstorms, rain with possible large hail, fog, and wind gusts reaching up to 30 m/s.

Footage posted on social media shows sizable hail covering the ground across parts of the region.

Despite the precipitation, temperatures in Petropavlovsk remained warm on April 28, ranging from 19 °C to 24 °C across the region.

However, meteorologists have warned of a sharp drop in temperatures on April 29.

"Rain mixed with snow is expected in the west, north, and east of the North Kazakhstan region. Fog is likely during the night and morning hours in these areas. Wind speeds are forecast at 15–20 m/s, with gusts up to 28–30 m/s and possibly higher," the statement said.

On the night of April 30, temperatures could dip below freezing, with frost expected to range from 0 °C to -3 °C, forecasters added.
