Tengrinews.kz - Minister of Emergency Situations Chingis Arinov named five regions of Kazakhstan where there is a threat of flooding.
As the Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations stated, 1223 settlements fall into the risk zone.
"These are the statistics that specialists give us and say that people are scared that all these settlements will be covered by water. Of course not. We say, emphasize that there are such threats, we are doing work. A number of threats have already been removed, so all responsible specialists are working. If we take statistics, then most of such settlements are in the West Kazakhstan region, Karaganda region, Akmola region, North Kazakhstan region, and East Kazakhstan region, top 5 if we take by settlements," emphasized Minister Arinov.
In the spring of 2024, large-scale floods occurred in a number of regions of Kazakhstan, as a result of which Aktobe, Atyrau, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Kostanay and Akmola regions suffered the most.
In 2024, a record volume of water has been collected in the reservoirs of the republic - more than 75 billion cubic meters, of which more than 12 billion cubic meters are flood water.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the correct distribution of flood water allowed not only to fill the reservoirs but also to direct water to rivers and lakes that have faced drying up in recent years, estuaries, natural pastures, and other objects.
