Tengrinews.kz – WhatsApp has introduced a “Strict Account Settings” feature designed to enhance user security – among other things, it allows blocking media files sent by people who are not in your contact list. This is stated in a post on the messenger’s official blog.
“Today we’re announcing a new, lockdown-style feature called Strict Account Settings. If you turn this on, certain account settings will lock to the most restrictive settings, and it will limit how your WhatsApp works in some ways, like blocking attachments and media from people not in your contacts,” the statement says.
To enable Strict Account Settings, users need to go to Settings > Privacy > Advanced.
It is noted that the messenger has also implemented the Rust programming language in its infrastructure, which helps protect users’ messages, photos, and videos from threats such as spyware.
On Monday, Telegram founder Pavel Durov called WhatsApp unsafe and pointed to numerous potential avenues for attacks on the messenger. Earlier on Tuesday, American entrepreneur Elon Musk agreed with his opinion.
