3G network
Cellular operators are planning to provide 3G coverage in Astana and Almaty, as well as in all the oblast centers of the country by January 1, 2012, Kazakhstan Minister of Communications and Information Askar Zhumagaliyev said during the meeting of the Senate’s commission on economic and regional policy, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the Ministry’s press-service. Minister also noted that currently 6,918 villages are provided with telephone connection, while the level of digitization of telecommunication networks in the villages has grown to 92.9 percent. Besides, Zhumagaliyev said that 5,830 schools are provided with Internet-access, which is 98.8 percent of the total number of schools. The Ministry is also planning to provide all villages with broadband Internet by 2015. In June 2011 maximum Internet rates were halved for communication operators. Besides, Kaztranscom and Nursat decreased their Internet-rates by 38 percent on August 1, 2011.
