The Ministry of Transport and Communication is planning to repair 1.7 million square meters of Kazakhstan roads, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the Ministry.
KazakhAvtoDor, Kazakhstan's state road repairer, has already started the spring repair works. Depending on the condition of the roads they will be pothole patched or heavily patched, resurfaced and repaired to remove rutting and whoops.
In addition, the Ministry plans to add or renew traffic stripping at 20.1 thousand km of roadways, to install and replace 8 thousand road signs and to repair 17 thousand meters of road rails.
The pothole patching works have been started on the major roads of South Kazakhstan and Zhambyl Oblasts. In accordance with the regulations, the repair works in other regions will start right after the snow melts away.
Quality of road has always been a problem in Kazakhstan. In terms of territory, Kazakhstan is a very large county the size of Western Europe, so constructing and maintaining roads is difficult and costly. But the country is working on improving its roads and overcoming the image of a place with bumpy roads. "More than 80% of roads in Kazakhstan are going to be brought to the appropriate condition by 2020. Our territory is very large so it is a good percentage," then Minister of Transport and Communications Askar Zhumagaliev said in the end of last year.
