Kazakhstan's first Vice-PM Serik Akhmetov visited several facilities in Akmolinskaya oblast upon instruction of Prime-Minister Karim Massimov, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Prime-Minister's official website. Akhmetov checked the course of reconstruction of Nura-Ishim channel. "Implementation of this project will resolve the problem of technical water deficiency in Astana, besides the channel can serve for recreational purposes and increase water supply to Maibalyk fish farm," the message states. The project worth 4.7 billion tenge ($31.8 million) is to be completed in October 2012. 23 km of the channel (92 percent of the whole channel) have already been reconstructed. First Vice-PM also visited Sabyndy village, where he checked on production of meat products and sausages at Astana Agroproduct meat-processing plant. "Opening of these meat processing plants will help improve observance of veterinary law and step up butchering conditions, eliminate middlemen and increase quality of meat products," Akhmetov said. Akhmetov also visited Bastau stud farm in Novo-Aleksandrovka village. He checked the farm breeding on Kazakh Whiteheaded breed of cattle and Edilbayev breed of sheep. Serik Akhmetov announced results of his trip at the meeting on cattle breeding. He noted that cattle breeding requires systematic state support. "It will boost the development of cattle breeding and will help improve the farms," Akhmetov said.
