Iranian investors have expressed interest in Kazakhstan's Kenderli resort, Tengrinews reports citing Marat Igaliev, Chairman of the Tourism and Industry Committee of Kazakhstan.
Almat Tejerat Holding representatives had a meeting with the President of the Kazakhstan Tourism Association, officials from the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies and the Deputy Akim (Deputy Governor) of Mangistau Oblast (western Kazakhstan).
Rosa Asanbayeva, president of Kazakhstan Tourism Association, agreed that Iran was an excellent potential partner for development of the local tourism.
“Iran is a very interesting market for us. We should attract more Iranian tourists. Take Azerbaijan for example, it simplified the visa regime for this country and now Baku is full of Iranian tourists. We had a discussion with the Iranian investors during the meeting and they expressed interest in Kenderli resort in Mangistau Oblast. The investors are planning to visit again,” Asanbayeva said, but added that it was premature to talk about any specific plans of the Iranian investors.
Marat Igaliev of the Tourism and Industry Committee said that the total cost of all the priority tourism projects in Kazakhstan was estimated at $7.6 billion and the government was looking for investors.
Kenderli project is worth $3.3 billion, with $1.96 billion needed before 2020 to build 22 hotels, shopping centers, outdoor courts and stadiums, three golf fields and a marina.
The huge recreation zone will take up around one thousand hectares (10 square km) of land.
