Up to 10 percent of all medications in Kazakhstan are forged. They are usually sold in small and suspicious pharmacies and through the Internet. There aer number less forged drugs in Kazakstan than in Russia. “The share of forged medications in Russia is 0.07 percent,” said professor of Sechenov Moscow State Medical University Vladimir Dorofeyev. He also noted that countering illegal smugglers requires a ligally defined punishment for forged medications. 19 million tenge ($130 thousand) worth of forged medical equipment has been registered since 2003.
