“In 1991, the average life expectancy was 67.6 years (in 2001 — 65.6, in 2011 — 68.98, in 2021 — 70.23). Thus, over three and a half decades of progress, the average life expectancy of citizens of Kazakhstan has increased by more than 8 years,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Healthcare named measures to combat noncommunicable diseases as one of the major factors influencing this indicator, since they are among the leading causes of death in Kazakhstan.

Earlier, the ministry also said that one in five deaths in Kazakhstan is not related to infections, and this share continues to grow. The main threat today comes from diseases that are directly linked to lifestyle.

Noncommunicable diseases account for about 80 percent of all deaths. The main causes are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes.
