The government has exhausted the medical administrative resource for lowering maternal and infant mortality, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Vice-PM Yerbol Orynbayev.
"As for the maternal and infant mortality rate, he have almost exhausted the medical administrative resource. Mainly, this is the poverty problem. So if we don't solve the employment and village incomes issues, it will be impossible to solve this one. Doctors are doing everything for women from the moment of impregnation to delivery. But if a women does not eat well, drinks bad water, does not take care of herself and has no job, medicine is helpless. This is a general social situation. These are also employment program issues," Orynbayev said at the expanded meeting of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
According to the Healthcare Ministry, Kazakhstan's maternal mortality rate lowered almost 3-fold, and infant mortality rate decrease 1.4-fold as of December 2012.
Orynbayev noted that Kazakhstan government is working on the anti-crisis program, a road map that will be linked to the employment program. According to the Vice-PM, this program has to increase the well-being of all the Kazakhstan citizens.
