Tengrinews.kz - A global decline in mental health is being observed, reports RIA Novosti.

The agency cites information from the British newspaper Financial Times.

"A pandemic of psychological disorders is affecting working-age individuals worldwide... The factors driving the global mental health crisis range from the cost of living to the widespread use of social media," the publication states.

According to the article, which references a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), the prolonged decline in mental health has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels," the newspaper quotes WHO mental health expert Dan Chisholm.

WHO and the International Labour Organization data cited in the article show that depression and anxiety result in the loss of approximately 12 billion workdays annually. The economic damage is estimated at one trillion dollars globally.
