Earlier, media outlets reported that an unknown virus had appeared in Russia, causing coughing up blood and high fever. Tengrinews.kz reached out to the Ministry to find out whether Kazakhstan’s health authorities were aware of the situation.

According to their response, the Russian Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) has not reported any registration of a new virus.

“The Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan has also not received any official information regarding the registration of new viruses. No cases with the aforementioned symptoms (coughing up blood, high fever) have been reported,” the Ministry stated in response to Tengrinews.kz’s official inquiry.

At the same time, since the beginning of the current epidemic season, more than 3.8 million cases of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) have been recorded in Kazakhstan, which is a 14% decrease compared to the same period of the previous season.

As for COVID-19, epidemiologists continue to monitor it on a weekly basis. According to the latest surveillance data, the following Omicron subvariants are currently circulating in Kazakhstan:

  • LF.7.1 – 33.3%;

According to information published on social networks, those who fall ill initially feel slightly unwell, but after a few days their condition worsens: they cannot even get out of bed, they have a high temperature of up to 39 degrees and a strong cough.

However, Rospotrebnadzor stated that ongoing epidemiological and genomic surveillance has not detected any new viruses or viruses with significant mutations.
