Second stage of Giro d’Italia
Kazakhstan team Astana was ranked third at the second stage of Giro d’Italia race.
The stage was won by British team Sky Procycling that covered the 17.4-km distance in 22 minutes and 5 seconds. It was followed by Movistar Team (Spain). Astana lost only 14 seconds to the winners. The fourth place was won by Russian team Katusha (+18 seconds).

First day of Giro d’Italia
British cyclist Mark Cavendish from Omega Pharma-Quick Step team won the first stage of Giro d’Italia race.
The British cyclist rode a 130km distance in 2 hours 58 minutes and 38 seconds. He was followed by Italian racer Elia Viviani (Cannondale) and Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ). Estonian cyclist Tanel Kangert was the best among Astana team cyclists finishing the first stage in the 20th place. Astana captain Vincenzo Nibali was ranked 29th.

Second day of WSB final in Astana
WSB final was held in two days. Boxers of Kazakhstan club Astana Arlans won over Ukraine Otamans in the finals. The Kazakhstan team won the main WSB trophy this year.

Boxers of Astana Arlans and Ukraine Otamans started the finals in Astana with the Kazakhstan team winning 3:2.
First Military Parade in Kazakhstan
The First Military Parade in the history of Kazakhstan and its Armed Forces was held at the 40th military base Otar on May 7. The parade involved 7 thousand militarymen, over 400 military vehicles, 80 aircrafts and helicopters. The event also included a live video broadcast from the Caspian Sea and the spectators could watch salvos made by Kazakhstan Navy.

5th charity ball in Almaty
One of the brightest and most important events in Kazakhstan's cultural life, the 5th charity ball, was held in Almaty. The dance part of the ball was opened by 60 debutant young couples from Astana, Almaty and Bishkek. This year the star debutants included the actress famous for her role in Zhauzhurek Myn Bala Aliya Telebarissova, members of Mysterious band, Ukrainian singer Kristina Mezhinskaya and Miss Kazakhstan-2012 Zhazira Nurimbetova. The total of over 3,400 young people took part in the ball. 12,940 people have applied for participation in the ball over the past 5 years.
Famous Russian baritone Dmitriy Khvorostovskiy was the most long-expected guest at the ball. The guests also included Almaty Akim (Mayor) Akhmetzhan Yessimov, head of Culture Department Kairat Kulbayev, President of Kazakhfilm studio Yermek Amanshayev, singer Batyrkhan Shukenov, actress Assel Sagatova, singer Bibigul Tulegenova, pianist Zhaniya Aubakirova and Missis Kazakhstan-2011 Viktoriya Mominbayeva.

Chronicles of Brest Fortress International photo exhibition called Chronicles of Brest Fortress is a tribute to all those who fought and died for peace and freedom and made a contribution into the victory over fascism. The exhibition is devoted to Kazakhstan soldiers who took part in the near-border battles to defend the Brest Fortress.
The Brest Fortress is one of the most important Soviet World War II war monuments commemorating the Soviet resistance against the German invasion on June 22, 1941 (Operation Barbarossa). Following the war, in 1965 the title Hero-Fortress was given to the Fortress to commemorate the heroic defence of the frontier stronghold during the first weeks of the German-Soviet War. It was then part of the Byelorussian SSR. The title Hero-Fortress corresponds to the title Hero City, that was awarded to an eventual total of twelve Soviet cities.
The memorial complex Hero-Fortress has become a grave for 1,020 people, including Kazakhstan soldiers who died in the first days of the war: Idris Kurnekeyev, Nuri Sadykov, Botabai Suleimenov, Vassiliy Vavilov, Vassiliy Kalugin.

JAZZYSTAN: British jazz on Almaty stageJAZZYSTAN project has become popular among jazz fans around the world. This year's first concert in Almaty was held on April 30. British bank INCOGNITO that just came back from the tour in North America brought a unique program to Almaty. The program was formed in over 30 years of the band's existence. A 30-minute set from Viktor Khomenkov's band was also a special surprise for the fans in Almaty.

Triumph of Almaty Kairat futsal teamFor the first time in the history of the club and in the history of Kazakhstan futsal Almaty team won the UEFA Cup. First they won over previous trophy-winner Spanish Barcelona in Georgia and then won over Moscow's Dinamo in the finals. The champions were met in Almaty airport by their families, fans and representatives of Kairat junior academy.

The Iron LadyFormer British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, the "Iron Lady" who shaped a generation of British politics, died following a stroke on Monday at the age of 87. The Iron Lady, who led Britain from 1979 to 1990, suffered from dementia and has appeared rarely in public in recent years. She was the only woman to hold this position in Great Britain and the first woman to become Prime-Minister in a European country. The Iron Lady had been in her position for the longest period in the 20th century.

Аbu Dhabi Desert Сhallenge-2013. Day 1Kazakhstan racers have successfully passed the administrative and technical checks at Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge-2013 held in the UAE from April 7 to 11. Kazakhstan is represented by 6 crews: 5 offroaders and 1 quad. All six crews arrived in Abu Dhabi on April 4 and passed the administrative check right away. Having passed all the procedures, including the driver’s licenses check, the racers received their GPS units and race numbers.
