BTA Bank estimates its damage from Zhanaozen clashes at 56 million tenge

BTA Bank has calculated its losses from December clashes in Zhanaozen, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. The damage caused to Zhanaozne office of the bank is estimated at 56 million tenge ($378 thousand), the bank's representative Marat Tlepov said at the hearing on Thursday. He noted that the bank's building was damaged, a vault was broken into, furniture and office machines were badly damaged and several ATM machines were robbed. According to him, 31.5 million tenge ($213 thousand) were stolen from 4 ATM machines. The trial over organizers of clashes in Zhanaozen started on Tuesday, March 27, in the building of Arman center in Aktau. 37 accused, 188 victims and 45 witnesses are taking part in the trial. Clashes in Zhanaozen and Shetpe village happened on December 16-17, 2011. The riots claimed lives of 15 people and left over 100 injured.
