Tengrinews.kz – World Animal Day is celebrated on October 4. In honor of this occasion, the Forestry and Wildlife Committee has released disappointing statistics regarding endangered animal species in Kazakhstan.

The Forestry and Wildlife Committee of Kazakhstan shared a post on their Instagram page.

“Kazakhstan is home to 835 species of vertebrate animals, including 178 mammals and 489 birds. However, the sad reality is that 132 species of vertebrates and 96 species of invertebrates are currently threatened with extinction. Wildlife conservation is being carried out by state inspectors and gamekeepers in cooperation with law enforcement agencies, who are actively working to prevent poaching and protect the biodiversity of the country’s natural environment,” the committee's statement said.

The committee also noted that this day serves as a reminder of the importance of animal protection and the need to care for them.

Previously, the Tien Shan brown bear, which is listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and the Red List of Kazakhstan, was caught in a trail camera in the Zhongar-Alatau National Park.
