Tengrinews.kz – A breathtaking video captured in Karaganda Region shows a massive herd of saiga antelopes sprinting freely across the steppe. The footage, shared by the Korgalzhyn Nature Reserve on Instagram, highlights the beauty and ecological importance of the species.

According to the reserve, the video was filmed near one of the salt lakes by the head of its scientific department.

"The saiga is highly mobile and capable of long seasonal migrations covering hundreds of kilometers in search of food and better conditions," the organization explained.

The reserve described the saiga as the "golden treasure of the steppe," noting that its sandy-golden coat resembles the color of gold. More importantly, saigas play a key ecological role: living in large herds and migrating across vast grasslands, they regulate plant growth and help maintain biodiversity. Without them, the steppe would lose part of its natural balance.

Although not listed in the Red Book, the saiga remains under state protection as a valuable game species. According to the spring count, the reserve recorded around 11,900 saiga antelopes.
