The rescuers have found the body of the ski instructor Roman Larikov hit by the avalanche at Shimbulak, the host of the Police Patrol show of STV channel Issa Sabirov told Tengrinews.kz.
The rescues managed to locate the body thanks to a cadaver dog. Despite of the immediate measures (CPR and heart massage) the man was beyond saving. The avalanche rushed down one of Shymbulak's slopes on Saturday, March 17, at around 4:30 p.m. Astana time. The avalanche's volume made 1,500-2,000 cubic meters.
There were 6 people at the slope at that moment. Four of them managed to climb out of the snow by themselves. One snowboarder was saved by the rescue team. But the search for Larikov lasted for around 1.5 hours.
Shymbulak is a ski resort near Almaty. It is located in the upper part of the Medeu Valley 2200 meters above the sea level. Almaty hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games; Shymbulak was a venue for the event.
