Tengrinews.kz — On the evening of April 16, a mudslide occurred in Almaty’s Bostandyk District.
A video from the scene in the Remizovka area was sent to our editorial office. According to the author, soil from the upper road collapsed onto the lower one.
As reported by the Almaty Department of Emergency Situations, a signal about the incident on the territory of the Remizovka gardening association was received through the 112 emergency line at 6:10 p.m. Emergency responders, the Kazselezashchita state institution, and city rescue services were promptly dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, specialists determined that heavy precipitation had caused the soil to become oversaturated with water, which led to a partial shift of soil masses (a mudslide) with a volume of about 300 cubic meters. As a result, the roof of a building was damaged. No one was injured.
About 40 personnel and 10 units of equipment are involved in dealing with the aftermath. A joint inspection is currently being carried out, and emergency service and police officers are on duty at the site.
Emergency recommendations
To prevent landslide processes and avoid emergency situations, the Almaty Department of Emergency Situations recommends following safety measures.
Residents are advised not to use leaking septic tanks, cesspits, or outdoor toilets, as this may lead to additional soil oversaturation.
Owners of private homes and heads of gardening associations are advised to monitor the condition of irrigation pipelines, sewage and drainage systems, as well as septic tanks.
In addition, it is important to prevent water from accumulating on plots and to ensure the timely drainage of rainwater and meltwater.
Specialists note that following these measures will help reduce the risk of soil movement and prevent possible emergencies.
