History and significance of the holiday
The Day of Languages of the People of Kazakhstan was established in 1998 to preserve and develop the languages of all ethnic groups in the country. Initially, it was celebrated on the third Sunday of September, but in 2017, the date was moved to September 5 in honor of Akhmet Baitursynov, who made a significant contribution to the development of the Kazakh language. According to the law "About languages in the Republic of Kazakhstan", the state language is Kazakh. The Russian language is also used in state bodies. Citizens of the country are free to use their native language, and discrimination based on language is not permitted.

Languages spoken in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is a true linguistic mosaic. According to the DataHub_FCBK Telegram channel, Kazakhstan is home to more than 120 ethnic groups.
Among them are 660.6 thousand Uzbeks, 375.9 thousand Ukrainians, 301.6 thousand Uighurs, 224.3 thousand Germans, and 219.2 thousand Tatars. The country is also home to Azerbaijanis, Koreans, Turks, Dungans, Belarusians, Tajiks, Kurds, Chechens, and Poles.
In Kazakhstan, media and broadcasts are produced in Ukrainian, Polish, Korean, German, Uighur, Turkish, and Dungan languages. There are also Sunday language centers and national theaters, including Kazakh, Russian, Uzbek, Uighur, German, and Korean theaters.
Festive events
On the Day of Languages of the People of Kazakhstan, events are held all over the country: lectures, concerts, and cultural programs in various languages. All of these activities bring together people of different nationalities.

The Day of Languages of the People of Kazakhstan reminds us that the unity of the country is built on respect for the cultures of all the nationalities living here. It is a great opportunity to reflect on preserving one’s native language and passing it on to future generations.
Earlier, the Chinese TikTok sensation Eun Joo has become widely popular for her performances of classic Kazakh hits and photos in traditional Kazakh costumes. Her rise to fame is partly attributed to the success of the series "My Altai," which gained significant acclaim in China and at the Cannes Television Festival earlier this year.
