Tengrinews.kz — Majilis deputy Murat Abenov reported an alleged major detention in Astana, sharing the information on social media. The situation was later commented on by the capital’s police press service.
What happened
According to Abenov, two foreigners were allegedly detained overnight in an apartment in one of the residential complexes in Astana with weapons.
“At night, in an apartment in the ‘Highvill’ area, two foreigners with an arsenal of weapons were detained: rifles and pistols,” his post said.
What police say
We contacted the police press service for a comment on the situation.
“The message about the detention of foreigners with an arsenal of weapons, circulating on social media, is not true,” the Astana Police Department said.
At the same time, it was confirmed that suspicious items had indeed been brought into a residential building.
“The report came from a vigilant resident, after which police officers immediately arrived at the scene. During the inspection, it was established that the box contained items of antique weapons with historical and cultural value,” the department explained.
According to police, the seized items are not modern combat weapons.
“According to expert conclusions, they do not belong to modern combat weapons. No threat to residents has been identified,” the statement said.
At the same time, police noted that an inspection is being carried out in accordance with current legislation.
