The building burnt in Almaty oblast turned out to be the office and the guesthouse for Syrian diplomats, Tengrinews.kz reports citing press-service of Almaty oblast Interior Department.
Police has found that Syrian embassy used to be in the building before. “After the embassy moved out the building was used as an office and guesthouse for the embassy’s staff,” the press-service states.
A criminal case was initiated in relation to the fire. The criminals will be charged under Intentional destruction or damage of property by burning, explosion or other society-hazardous way. This crime is punished with up to 4 years of imprisonment for up to 4 years. A technical fire test has been appointed and the suspects are being searched for.
Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that unidentified persons have burnt the only Syrian consulate in Kazakhstan that is located in Almaty oblast. The diplomats believe that the incident is linked to the civil war in Syria.
