Tengrinews.kz - A resident of Kostanay region has been sentenced for selling saiga meat, according to the regional prosecutor's office.

During the investigation, the Arkalyk prosecutor's office found that the local resident had repeatedly sold saiga antelope meat within the city.

"A pre-trial investigation was conducted on this case, during which the meat from five saiga antelopes was seized. The damage to the state amounted to more than 21 million tenge," the supervisory agency reported.

The court found the citizen guilty of committing an environmental crime and sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months in prison with confiscation of the vehicle.

The Prosecutor's Office recalled that hunting saigas, removing them from their natural habitat, and harvesting their parts are prohibited in Kazakhstan.
