Kazakhstani airline company Bek Air has signed an agreement with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft to purchase seven Sukhoi Superjet 100 fly-by-wire regional jets, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the manufacturing company.
The agreement was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK. Three of these 103-seaters will be delivered in 2015 and four more in 2016.
Bek Air was opened in 1999 to make domestic flights in Kazakhstan, predominantly business flights. At the moment, the airline company services 14 destinations and 500 thousand passengers a year. The company plans to open new routes to Russia, Asia and Middle East.
Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a new aircraft family in the 100 to 108 seat category produced by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft. Its development started in 2000 and the first flight of the new airplane took place in May 2008. The first SSJ100 was put into commercial operation in 2011. The flying range of the basic model is 3048 km, while the long range version of the airplane covers a distance of 4578 km.
Designed to compete internationally with its An-158, Embraer and Bombardier counterparts, the Superjet 100 claims substantially lower operating costs, at a lower purchase price of $35 million.
