Turkish band BaBa Zula will perform at the 2nd music festival The Spirit of Tengri on June 7th in Almaty, Tengrinews reports.
BaBa Zula is an alternative band from Istanbul that creates a unique blend of psychedelic rock. The band writes their material based on ethnic music. BaBa Zula gained its international recognition in 2005 after a documentary Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul by Fatih Akin that presented contemporary music scene of Istanbul.
The musicians play traditional instrument with reggae, electronic and dub twist. A Persian string instrument saz is at the heart of BaBa Zula music.
At the moment, the band is busy performing at a number of ethnic music festivals across Europe such as WOMAD in the UK and Roskilde in the Netherlands.
BaBa Zula will perform for Almaty public during The Spirit of Tengri on the Republic Square (crossing of Abai and Dostyk streets) on June 7th. The Spirit of Tengri showcases a mixture of ethnic music and contemporary sound. The organizers of the festival aim to bring artists from different countries whose music pays homage to their ethnic tone but puts a contemporary twist on it together on the The Spirit of Tengri stage in Almaty. Charming Sainkho, a superstar of Tuvan throat singing, along with Radik Tyulyush, a world-renowned musician and singer, will join BaBa Zula to make our hearts beat to the rhythm of world ethnic music.
