Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have opened the border crossing points "Kaplanbek" and "Navoi," but they will operate with restrictions. This was reported by the press service of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of the Ministry of Finance.

According to the SRC, the Uzbek side will soon temporarily close the "Gisht-Kuprik" checkpoint (the corresponding checkpoint on the Kazakh side is "Zhibek Zholy") to complete construction work on modernization.

Therefore, the two countries agreed to open the "Kaplanbek" checkpoint (on the Kazakh side) and "Navoi" checkpoint (on the Uzbek side) for pedestrian crossings, as well as the passage of passenger vehicles and buses.

"Both the Kazakh and Uzbek sides have conducted simultaneous modernization and technical upgrades at the 'Kaplanbek' and 'Navoi' checkpoints, and today the technical opening of these checkpoints was carried out."

Due to commissioning works, the passage of individuals, passenger vehicles, and buses will be limited from January 27 to February 5. From February 5, the checkpoint will operate at full capacity," the SRC reported.

Subsequently, after agreement between the parties, the second phase will involve the passage of freight vehicles at these checkpoints.

As added by the committee, it is expected that the "Kaplanbek" checkpoint will increase its capacity to handle up to 20,000 individuals and up to 800 vehicles per day.

The date of the temporary closure of the "Zhibek Zholy" checkpoint will be announced separately.
