Tengrinews.kz – Ukraine, along with Western leaders — including French President Emmanuel Macron — and Turkey, jointly proposed that the Kremlin hold a bilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a number of countries, including Kazakhstan. Zelensky shared this in an interview with Fox News.
“We proposed a meeting in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and in neutral European countries like Austria and Switzerland. We said: ‘Even if you want somewhere like Kazakhstan – we’re ready.’ That’s all,” Zelensky stated.
When asked for clarification by the anchor, Zelensky confirmed he is willing to meet with the Russian president.
A week earlier, Zelensky had once again stated that he is ready to meet with Trump and Putin in a trilateral or bilateral format without preconditions — but immediately added a key condition: not in Moscow.
Previously, Putin had said that if Zelensky was ready to meet, he should come to Moscow. Zelensky rejected the offer and instead invited Putin to negotiations in Kyiv.
As a reminder, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev earlier met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. It was reported that Zelensky shared his perspective on the situation in Ukraine, and Tokayev stated that in such a highly complex situation, diplomatic efforts must continue in order to find a path toward ending the conflict.
