Tengrinews.kz - A yacht with foreign tourists sank off the coast of Marsa Alam in Egypt’s Red Sea. Twenty-eight people were rescued, while 17 remain missing, according to The Guardian.
The vessel, named Sea Story, was carrying 31 tourists from various countries and 14 crew members.
"It was not immediately clear what caused the four-deck, wooden-hulled motor yacht to sink," the article states.
Among the missing are several British nationals. The UK’s Foreign Office confirmed it is providing consular support to those affected and their families.
The yacht departed from the Port of Ghalib, near Marsa Alam, on a diving tour and was scheduled to arrive in Hurghada on Friday.
According to local authorities, some survivors were rescued by aircraft, while others were evacuated on a military ship. Intense search operations are underway in coordination with the navy and armed forces.
Egyptian media reports that those on board included four Britons, four Germans, five Spaniards, two Belgians, three Slovaks, and two Americans.
It is noted that at least two similar incidents occurred in the Marsa Alam area earlier this year, though both were without casualties.
Earlier, Egyptian media reported that a tourist bus accident occurred in the city of Ras Sudr, where 41 people were injured, including three tourists from Kazakhstan.
