Tengrinews.kz – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced the immediate suspension of work visas for foreign commercial truck drivers.
He wrote about this on his page on social network X.
“Effective immediately we are pausing all issuance of worker visas for commercial truck drivers,” Rubio noted.
According to him, the growing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailers on U.S. roads threatens the lives of Americans and undermines the incomes of American truckers.
As reported by the New York Post, the Secretary of State made the statement after a major accident in Florida involving a foreign driver.
A 28-year-old illegal migrant from India allegedly violated traffic rules on a busy highway while driving his tractor-trailer. At that moment, a black minivan crashed into the trailer at high speed, and all three people in the car were killed.
Law enforcement officers arrested the driver. During questioning, he was able to answer only two out of 12 questions in English and recognize just one of the four road signs shown to him.
Earlier, the U.S. State Department announced the temporary suspension of all visas for individuals from the Gaza Strip seeking to enter the country. It was reported that the procedure was halted “pending a full and thorough review.”
