Tengrinews.kz - Lawyers are demanding that the charges against re-elected US President Donald Trump in the case on payments to a porn actress be dropped, citing as an argument the decree of the current US President Joe Biden on pardoning his son Hunter, according to DW.

Trump's lawyers have urged a New York state judge to dismiss a falsification indictment related to payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

Trump's defense team argues that New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg is engaging in the same selective prosecution that Biden previously denounced when he pardoned his son Hunter.

"Yesterday, in issuing a 10-year pardon to Hunter Biden that covers any and all crimes whether charged or uncharged, President Biden asserted that his son was 'selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,' and 'treated differently,'" NBC News quotes an excerpt from the document.

In addition, lawyers point to other factors that undermine the legality of the charges. Among them are the false testimony of a key witness and the fact that Trump won the presidential election. The lawyers believe that Bragg's "interests of justice" are threatened by "enduring consequences upon the balanced power structure of our republic."

Earlier, Biden announced pardon for his son Hunter. In a statement released by the White House, Biden said he had decided to pardon Hunter for crimes against the United States that he "committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from Jan. 1, 2014, through Dec. 1, 2024."
