Tengrinews.kz – U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order allowing American investors to purchase TikTok and take control of the platform in the United States. The main terms of the deal have already been agreed upon, but finalization will take additional time due to the need to work through legal and financial details.

NBC News reported this on Thursday, September 25.

“This is going to be American-operated all the way,” Trump said during the signing ceremony. “I have great respect for President Xi, and I very much appreciate that he approved the deal, because to get it done properly, we really needed the support of China and the approval of China.”

According to NBC, it remains unclear who exactly will be part of the deal. Trump noted that Oracle and its co-founder Larry Ellison would play a key role. Entrepreneur Michael Dell and media mogul Rupert Murdoch will also be involved in the project.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that more information about the participants will be shared in the coming weeks. He added that the U.S. will gain control over TikTok’s algorithm, which determines the content users see in their feed.

Vance also mentioned that the company would be valued at approximately $14 billion. A clip of his speech was posted by the official White House account Rapid Response 47 on the social network X.

Reporters asked Trump whether he would like the new algorithm to promote more MAGA-related content. MAGA is an acronym for Trump’s campaign slogan Make America Great Again.

“I always like MAGA-related,” the president responded. “If I could make it 100% MAGA, I would, but it’s not going to work out that way, unfortunately. No, everyone’s going to be treated fairly. Every group, every philosophy, every policy will be treated very fairly.”

The deal is the result of years of attempts to eliminate potential threats to American users, which critics have linked to Chinese ownership of TikTok.

NBC reminded viewers that TikTok’s future had remained uncertain after former President Joe Biden signed a law last year requiring the Chinese company ByteDance to sell the app to an American owner or face a ban in the U.S. The Supreme Court upheld the law, which was set to take effect on January 19 of this year.

However, aside from a brief ban just hours before Trump’s inauguration, TikTok continued to operate. The U.S. president postponed the ban several times through executive orders. In early September, he delayed the shutdown deadline for the fourth time — now extended to December 16 — to finalize the deal between Washington and Beijing.
