Trump administration to review 55 million US visa holders

Tengrinews.kz – The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump will begin reviewing all 55 million holders of American visas to determine whether they have committed violations that could lead to deportation.

According to the New York Post, the State Department announced that any foreign nationals with U.S. visas found to have “indicators of overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization” will lose their residency permits and be expelled from the country.

Officials told the Associated Press that all visa holders are subject to “continuous vetting” aimed at identifying unlawful activity.

“We review all available information as part of our vetting, including law enforcement or immigration records or any other information that comes to light after visa issuance indicating a potential ineligibility,” the department explained.

The publication notes that the statement comes amid Trump’s administration tightening oversight of the visa system, with particular attention given to foreign students.

These measures are part of the U.S. President’s broader policy of cracking down on illegal immigration, which has led to the number of migrants in the country beginning to decline for the first time in 50 years.

According to a recent Pew Research Center study, when Trump took office in January, there were 53.3 million migrants living in the United States. By June, the number had decreased by 1.4 million to 51.9 million.

As a reminder, the day before, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the suspension of work visas for foreign truck drivers. According to him, the growing number of such drivers threatens the lives of Americans and undermines the incomes of local carriers.
